OSHA awards Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Recognition to Honeywell UOP facility in Tonawanda, N.Y.

TONAWANDA, NY., Sept. 19, 2019 — Honeywell announced today that its Honeywell UOP facility in Tonawanda, N.Y. received the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Certification from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The VPP Star Certification is OSHA’s highest recognition for the practice and commitment to exemplary occupational safety and health.

To receive this recognition, which is awarded to less than 1% of eligible businesses in the United States, the business must meet rigorous safety requirements and prove that injury and illness rates are well below the national average.

This recognition is a testament to the work put in by our employees to continuously improve working conditions and the safety culture at the site,” said Honeywell UOP Tonawanda Plant Manager Peter Fox. “We’re honored to receive OSHA’s VPP Star Certification and to be recognized among the safest places to work in the U.S.”

Honeywell UOP, is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, equipment, and consulting services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries. The Tonawanda plant, which opened full-scale operations in 1973, has 70 employees. The facility is planning a multimillion-dollar expansion in 2021 of its High Flux tubing line, which is used globally in air separation, production of ethylene, and various other applications in oil refineries and petrochemical plants. The plant is also planning an additional capital investment of several million dollars for equipment modernization over the next three years.

The Honeywell UOP Tonawanda team celebrated the award at a ceremony on site on Sept. 19.
